FRIM

WELCOME TO FOREST RESEARCH INSTUTUDE MALAYSIA (FRIM)

Today, I would like to introduce you to a Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) @ Kepong with a photo story. FRIM is quite literally a capsule of natural beauty stretching almost 500 acres of land. Centered within a dense woodland reserve, FRIM is also home to the Kepong Botanical Gardens, which gives tourists a wonderful landscape to absorb as well as being a research area for botany and horticulture. This garden next to the Ethno-Botanic Garden, which shows local plants used as traditional remedies such as Tongkat Ali, is ideal for tourists with a green finger or for those who enjoy nature or plants to be precise.

How can I hit FRIM?

It's about 30/45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur City Center along the Selayang-Kepong Highway. When you reach the FRIM, the transparent (green/yellow) markings will take you to the entrance of the Woodland. Public transportation to FRIM is also possible, only get off at KTM Komuter station Kepong and from there take a taxi to the entrance to the park. I know that in the forest there are almost no taxis, so it can be hard to return to KL (you could ask the people at the One Stop Centre to order a taxi for you). If you are planning a day trip to Kuala Lumpur, a visit to FRIM can easily be paired with a visit to Kuala Selangor and the Batu Caves (fireflies).

Entrance fees FRIM

Basic admission costs RM1 to residents of Malaysia and to students while non-citizens must pay RM5 for entry. If tourists choose to carry their vehicles in compounds, such as bicycles, bikes or cars, there are extra costs. For any SLR camera that visitors carry into their compounds, an RM5 fee is charged.

INTERESTING ACTIVITIES IN (FRIM)- KEPONG

1. Challenge yourself at Conopy Walkway

The highlight of FRIM is its canopy walkway, which no tourist can skip. The road is 150 metres long and is constructed 30 metres above ground.
The Entrance Fee for Canopy Walkway is RM10 for Non-Malaysian and RM5 for Malaysian.

FRIM provides a day for up to 250 people (200 people via booking and only 50 walk-ins) to the suspended bridge for the longevity of the walkway system. Early bookings are also welcomed to prevent deception.

The hours of service are subject to weather conditions (the backdoor is closed when it is rained and opened again within 2 hours after rain is over and the weather is calm. The Canopy Walkway's recently visited by FRIM is under repair.

2. Jogging at The Track

The Rover Trail is a gravel path that travels about 170 m along the pistes to Bukit Beruang (401m) and Bukit Nolang summits (439m). For joggers it's a really famous road.

We can took this path as the shortest approach to the Canopy Walkway entrance. On the ride we can leapt into a lot of joggers to listen to the bustling sound of the birds and insects. I have heard bunnies!!

3. Picnic at waterfall

FRIM also offers hiking and picnic areas in its woodland compounds for recreational activities. The picnic area lies immediately along a nice waterfall, where you can also lounge in one of the swimming pools.

In the region of FRIM, many local families will enjoy a BBQ and escape from the heat of Kuala Lumpur during weekends and public holidays. You can walk to the Canopy Walkway from the picnic area, but this is a fairly steep climb. It will only take you 15 minutes to get from the picnic area to the Canopy Walkway, if you're in decent shape.

FRIM is the suitable places for those who want a real jungle experience. They will provide you the best unexpected experiences with the nature and far away from city bustle.
